Having premiered in 2019 at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival, the musical drama by Diana Paragras has since garnered an astonishing 13 awards and wide critical praise. This makes it one of the most significant Pinoy films released by a major Hollywood studio.
The film is headlined by the young Broadway star Eva Noblezada, Broadway royalty Lea Salonga, Dale Watson, and Princess Punzalan. The titular roles played by Noblezada and Salonga were highly praised, especially for their heartfelt musical performances.
In Yellow Rose, Noblezada plays Rose, a headstrong undocumented Pinoy immigrant who dreams of making it big in the country music scene. She’s ready to leave her small Texas town to pursue a music career, when suddenly, her world is shattered as her mother (Punzalan) is picked up by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Alone and facing the threat of deportation, Rose embarks on a journey of self-discovery and sets out for a new home in the honky-tonk world of Austin, Texas.
