KUMU livestreamer Denize Castillo earns $10,000 and lands recording contract

The highly-anticipated ABS-CBN Star Hunt: The Global Showdown finally concluded as judges announced the first Singing idol on Wednesday, December 11 with thousands tuning in to watch the 2-hour event via the country’s fastest-growing social media app KUMU.

Winning an exclusive management contract from Star Hunt, a recording contract with ABS-CBN Music, and $10,000 in cash is 21-year old U.P. Diliman Theater arts student Denize Castillo from Quezon City who got a high score of 40.58%.

Scores are combined based on KUMU diamonds (or virtual gifts given by KUMU users to the finalists) which makes up 50% of the combined scores, plus the scores given by judges Marcus Vinuya of Star Hunt; Allie Dela Cruz of ABS-CBN Global Marketing, and Lecxis Angeles of Tarsier Records for another 50%.

The former Idol Philippines contender bested two other finalists in 26-year old Yzabel Cabral who hails from San Francisco, U.S.A., and 23-year old Jazza Torres from Imus, Cavite who got 24.32%.

Denize sang a cover of Yeng Constantino’s “Salamat” as her winning number for the talent search stating that it represents all of her life experiences from the joys, pains, challenges, and the ‘almosts’.

“To all the people who supported me since the very beginning and who never got tired even though I, myself was thinking about giving up — you were always there to tell me that someday I will find my own star,” she shared after being proclaimed the winner. “Finally, this is it!” she added.

The event went on as one the first-of-its-kind livestream talent search available for viewing on a mobile screen thanks to KUMU. Followers and supporters have come to know the three finalists via the Star Hunt channel on the app where the finalists came up with unique ways to perform their song choices and win the hearts of users through online social interactions.

ABS-CBN Star Hunt: The Global Showdown was hosted by Maymay Entrata and Edward Barber, together with Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) Otso’s Kiara Takahashi and The Voice Teens Philippines finalist and ASAP G! heartthrob Jeremy Glinoga, with performances by MNL 48, and PBB Otso Teens alumni Ashley del Mundo and Tan Roncal; Karina Bautista and Aljon Mendoza; and Gian Wang and Missy Quino.
